The Pink Tax refers to the extra amount of money women are charged for certain products or services. These products and services include dry cleaning, personal care products, and vehicle maintenance. The average woman spends about $1,351 a year in extra costs. Pink Price is a campaign with the mission to educate women on unjust gender pricing.
The New York Department of Consumer Affairs conducted a study comparing over 800 products. They found that 42% of the time, goods marketed for women cost more than similar products for men. Women make up 75-85% of all consumer purchases. Women’s products cost about 7% more than similar products for men.
